Mahesh Manjrekar’s Wife Medha Shares Emotional Note On Her Cancer Battle

Veteran Marathi actor Medha Manjrekar shared a heartfelt social media post revealing that she has been undergoing cancer treatment in silence. The 59-year-old said that, just before her birthday, as a big chapter of her medical journey came to a close, she chose to look back on the experience, not with fear or bitterness, but with immense gratitude for the people who helped carry her through it.

Instead of focusing on the gruesome details of surgeries or hospital stays, she wrote a beautiful tribute to her family, friends and doctors.

Focusing on the Blessings

For Medha, the health crisis was a complete change in perspective on life. She didn’t pay attention to the physical pain of her treatment but to the love that was so overwhelmingly around her.

"There are journeys in life that change you forever. This has been one of them," she wrote. "As one phase of my treatment comes to an end and my birthday approaches, I find myself looking back. Not at the diagnosis. Not at the surgery. Not at the chemotherapy. Not at the radiation. I remember grace."

She thought about her support system’s timing and how every time she felt like quitting, someone was there to help her take the next step.

“I know they weren’t coincidences, looking back,” she said. “That was God squeezing my hand. “He came into my life as my Gurus, my doctors, my nurses, my family, my friends and even someone who was once a stranger but became a blessing. She said she learned from her spiritual guides that surrender doesn’t mean giving up, it’s the highest form of faith, and a way of thinking that took her to peace, not to “why me?”

Emotional Role Reversal With Her Daughters

The most touching part of her message was addressed to her daughters, Saiee Manjrekar and Gauri Ingawale. Medha knew her children had silently risen to become her protectors when she needed them the most.

  • A Mother’s Realisation “A mother lives thinking that she will be the one to always hold her children’s hands,” wrote Medha. This journey reminded me that one day, without knowing it, the children start holding their mother’s hand. Thanks for keeping mine.

  • Family Support: She also expressed silent gratitude to her husband, filmmaker Mahesh Manjrekar, for "just being there". Note that this is not the first time the family has travelled this road. A few years ago, Mahesh had successfully fought off urinary bladder cancer with Medha as his pillar of emotional strength.

The Power of Food and Little Things

Beyond her own family, Medha said her “tribe” – including her sister, co-sister and close friends – showed her the true definition of love. They took turns of staying with her, praying with her, keeping her laughing and some even travelled across continents just to spend time by her side.

Their little, considerate gestures kept her going when the heavy cancer treatments took her appetite completely away. There was always someone to know exactly what she could eat, bringing in boxes of soft idlis or dhoklas or bringing her pani puri the very day she had a sudden craving.

She ended by sharing a sweet memory of a friend who joked that she should drink her daily cranberry juice out of a champagne flute—a small change of presentation that can lead to a big, happy change of perspective.
