Big Update for UGC-NET Aspirants! NTA Announces Re-Exam for English, Commerce & Sociology

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced a fresh examination for three subjects of the UGC-NET June 2026 session after an inquiry committee found multiple errors in the question papers. The affected subjects are English, Commerce and Sociology.

Re-Examination Dates Announced

According to the NTA schedule, the English and Commerce papers will be conducted again on September 9, 2026. The English examination will take place from 9 am to 12 noon, while Commerce candidates will appear from 3 pm to 6 pm. The Sociology paper will be re-conducted on September 10 from 9 am to 12 noon.

Why Were the Papers Cancelled?

The decision followed complaints from candidates about discrepancies in the three question papers. An NTA-appointed committee examined the complaints and identified several issues, including factual, typographical and translation errors, along with repeated questions. The agency concluded that the problems were extensive enough that simply removing incorrect questions during the answer-key challenge process would not adequately address them.

What About the Other UGC-NET Subjects?

The UGC-NET June 2026 examination was conducted between June 22 and 30 across 87 subjects. NTA has clarified that the re-examination of the three affected subjects will not delay the result process for the remaining 84 subjects. Their answer-key challenge and subsequent result procedures will continue as scheduled.

The UGC-NET examination determines eligibility for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), Assistant Professor positions and admission to PhD programmes.

The latest notice is also available on the official NTA website, which has listed the public notice regarding the re-conduct of the English, Commerce and Sociology papers.
