Four Doctors Linked to Terror Groups JeM, ISIS Arrested, Terror Plot Foiled

Authorities have busted a white-terror ecosystem, which was operating across India within the professional circles. Four arrests have been made over the past week. These four individuals were from the medical circle. These four doctors are allegedly linked to terror activities in two separate incidents.

These four are arrested from Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Gujarat and Jammu & Kashmir. From one set of arrests, the police seized 2,500 kgs of bomb-making material, rifles, pistols, and other suspicious material. From arrests made in Gujarat, officials recovered poison-formulating material and pistols.

Three of them are identified as Dr. Adeel Rather, Dr Ahmed Saiyed and Dr Muzmil Shakeel. However, the identification of the fourth person remains unknown. 

Investigations have revealed that these radicalised doctors were in contact with foreign handlers from Pakistan and other countries. Moreover, they were also in contact with  the banned terrorist outfits like ISIS, Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGUH). These four were actively preparing both chemical and firearms-based attacks in different parts of India

ABOUT THE ARREST:

• Dr. Adeel Rather, Uttar Pradesh: He was a doctor from Jammu & Kashmir’s Anantnag. He was working at GMC Anantnag until October 24, 2024. He was arrested after an AK-47 rifle was recovered from the personal locker of the hospital. According to police, Rather had links to terror outfits. After a search from him started, he was found in Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur. He was taken into custody November 6. An FIR has been registered against him under the Arms Act and UAPA.

• Dr Ahmed Mohiyuddin Saiyed, Gujarat: He was arrested by Gujarat ATS on November 7.  Saiyed, who is a trained MBBS doctor, was preparing ricin, which is a highly potent protein toxin. It is extremely toxic if inhaled, injected, or ingested. Saiyed had conducted months-long study of crowded public spaces, including Delhi’s Azadpur Mandi, Ahmedabad’s Naroda fruit market, and the RSS’s Lucknow office. Saiyed was allegedly in contact with ISIS. He is now charged under UAPA, the Arms Act, and Indian Penal Code provisions.

• Dr Muzmil Shakeel, Haryana: This Kashmiri doctor and professor is the third person to be arrested in the case. He was nabbed on November 9 by a joint team of Jammu & Kashmir and Haryana police. Officials have recovered 360 kgs of suspected ammonium nitrate. According to Faridabad Police Commissioner, Shakeel had previously posted JeM-supporting posters in Srinagar.
• Unidentified Doctor:  In the same operation in Faridabad, a woman doctor, who was a colleague of Shakeel, was arrested on November 7. Police recovered a rifle from her car. Her role in the network is under investigation.
