We Went Where They Least Expected': Priyanka Gandhi's Bold Remark After Congress' Surprise PM House March
Congress leaders, led by Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, staged a surprise 'Chalo PM House' protest in New Delhi, demanding accountability over recent police action against students.
The Congress party intensified its protest against the Centre by staging a surprise 'Chalo PM House' march in New Delhi, with senior leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra declaring that the Opposition had "gone where they least expected us." Her remarks came after Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and party president Mallikarjun Kharge, led a march towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi's official residence, drawing widespread political attention.
A Protest Surprise
The march was organised to protest the government’s handling of recent student protests and to hold accountable the alleged police action against protesters. Earlier, protests were held at designated venues but Congress leaders suddenly decided to march towards the Prime Minister’s residence, surprising security agencies and many party workers.
"The move was calculated and the Opposition wanted to ensure its voice reached the highest level of government," Priyanka Gandhi said after the protest. “The march is a message that the party is prepared to bring up issues that it feels are being ignored,” she said.
police stopped the march
As the leaders were nearing the high-security zone of Lok Kalyan Marg, the Delhi Police stopped the procession and did not allow it to go forward. Security personnel detained several Congress MPs and leaders including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi before taking them away in police vehicles.
Videos circulating on social media showed dramatic scenes as police tried to disperse the gathering. Congress accused the government of cracking down on democratic protests and accused its leaders of being manhandled during the operation. It said peaceful protests were being greeted with unnecessary force.
War of Words on Politics
BJP, on the other hand, defended the police action stating that the Prime Minister’s residence is a highly secured zone and unauthorized protests cannot be allowed. Party leaders said security protocols were followed and accused Congress of staging the protest only for political theatre.
The incident has also added to the ongoing confrontation between the ruling BJP and the opposition. Congress has vowed to continue raising issues of student rights, democratic freedoms, and alleged misuse of state machinery.
Another flashpoint in India's increasingly heated political landscape is the 'Chalo PM House' protest with neither side willing to budge. Priyanka Gandhi’s statement has become the signature statement of the protest, highlighting the Congress party’s attempt to project itself as an aggressive opposition, ready to take on the government through direct action.
