Police say the alleged thefts had been going on for some time, but an investigation is now underway to determine how long.

Officials said the incident came to light when the caretaker was allegedly seen taking several temple bells out of the premises in a bag.

The temple bells in Buddheshwar Temple have been donated by devotees over the years and are considered sacred. Locals noticed the act and nabbed the accused on the spot. He was later handed over to the para police.

A senior officer confirmed the man has been taken into custody and the recovered items are being verified.

The mystery of the missing bells is finally solved
Over the last few weeks, regular visitors to the temple have noticed the bells going missing from the railings and entrance. The disappearances were discussed among the devotees, but no one suspected the involvement of the person entrusted to look after the temple.

Police believe this arrest could now explain the pattern of missing bells. Authorities are checking temple records and CCTV footage to probe the timeline and scale of the alleged thefts.

Devotees shocked and angry
The news of the alleged theft spread quickly, and by Tuesday morning, there was a crowd outside the temple.

The claims reportedly upset a lot of worshippers. The bells are not just metal but symbols of faith and prayer to them.

“These bells are dedicated in devotion. “It’s very disappointing to think someone would take them,” said a devotee who visits the temple daily.

Residents demanded strict action and better security at the temple to avoid the recurrence of such incidents in the future.

Police launch an investigation
- The parapolice have registered a case and are interrogating the accused. Officers said they’ll check:
- Total number of bells recovered
- For how long had the alleged thefts been going on
- If anyone else was involved.

“Don’t jump to conclusions until the investigation is complete,” police said. The results will determine further legal action.

The Buddheshwar Temple is one of the oldest Shiva temples in Lucknow, and it is visited by hundreds of devotees every day, especially on Mondays. Temple authorities said they would review security arrangements after the police investigation is over.
