Saharanpur Honor Killing: Woman Shot Dead Inside Police Custody, Brother Arrested
In a shocking incident from Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur, a 25-year-old woman was allegedly shot dead by her brother when she was under police protection. The victim, Rakhi, had allegedly married a man of another caste against the wishes of her family. The accused has been arrested, and another suspect is on the run.

Rakhi had recently married a man from a different caste after leaving her family home, police said. Her family members lodged a complaint, and the police traced the couple and took Rakhi into custody for necessary legal formalities. The attack took place outside a hospital where she was being escorted for a medical examination.
Brother Opens Fire, Alleges
Investigators say that Rakhi’s brother Monty Rana allegedly shot at his sister while she was inside the police vehicle. She was badly hurt and was declared dead shortly afterwards. Police recovered the firearm used in the crime, and the accused was arrested at the scene.
Security lapses come under scrutiny
The incident has also raised serious questions regarding police security during the transit of people involved in sensitive family disputes. Authorities have opened an investigation into how the suspect got to the police car given the security setup.
