Fatal Crash on Delhi-Lucknow Highway Claims Lives in Uttar Pradesh's Hapur

Deadly Highway Traffic Jam 
The accident occurred in the early hours near Hapur on busy NH-9. Police say the vehicle lost control before crashing. The car got a bad hit.

Some died on the spot; others were wounded. The impact closed one lane of the highway and caused a traffic backup of almost an hour.

Eyewitnesses said they heard a loud explosion and ran to help before police and ambulances arrived.

Emergency crews on the scene
Hapur police and fire services and ambulance teams rushed to the spot within minutes. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. 

Authorities worked to clear the mangled vehicle and debris from the road. Traffic was restored once the highway was cleared.

Senior police officers were also present at the site to supervise the rescue operations.

Investigation in progress 
Authorities have filed a case, and an investigation has been started into the circumstances of the crash. 

Preliminary checks are looking at possible causes including over-speeding, driver fatigue and vehicle condition. They are examining CCTV footage of nearby toll plazas and statements of witnesses.

“We are considering all options. “The exact cause will be known after investigation,” said a senior police official.

Prioritise road safety 
The accident has brought highway safety back into the spotlight. Officials urged drivers to stick to speed limits, not to make long journeys without stopping, and to check their vehicles were in good condition before starting.

With heavy traffic on the Delhi-Lucknow corridor, police said patrolling and awareness drives will be stepped up in the coming weeks.
