Celebrities Come Out In Support Of Sonam Wangchuk As His Hunger Strike Enters 18th Day
As his indefinite hunger strike in Delhi enters its 18th day, Bollywood celebrities have come out in support of education reformer and climate activist Sonam Wangchuk.
Actors and filmmakers have requested that the Centre speak to Wangchuk and have expressed concern for his health. Bollywood backs Wangchuk. Since the protests began, names from the film industry have been speaking out on social media and in statements. Others who came out in support were Anurag Kashyap, Zeenat Aman, Shabana Azmi, Soni Razdan, Abhay Deol, and Atul Kulkarni. They called for serious negotiations with Wangchuk and expressed concern that his health may deteriorate.
Dialogue and empathy are needed
Many celebrities appealed to Wangchuk to call off his protest and take care of his health, saying that his work still mattered to the country.
In the meantime, they urged the government to talk to him. “Talk to him. Several posts read: “Solve the problems peacefully.”
Campaign for the Future of Ladakh
Wangchuk is demanding better protection of the environment and stronger constitutional safeguards for Ladakh.

As the hunger strike enters its third week, Wangchuk’s health is a concern.
