Ambala And Hansi Protests Raise Tensions, Haryana Police Braces For Khanauri March

The Haryana state police is gearing up for a possible showdown at the Khanauri border in the wake of recent protests in Ambala and Hansi. As farmers from Haryana and Punjab prepare to march toward Delhi against the proposed India-US trade deal, Khanauri is emerging as the latest potential flashpoint.

Farmers Begin ‘Kisan Bachao Padyatra’

The mobilization is being led by the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (Non-Political), headed by farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal. The organisation has started its ‘Kisan Bachao Padyatra’ from Datasinghwala village in Punjab. The march is planned to move towards Jantar Mantar in Delhi.

The Khanauri border, located between Haryana’s Jind district and Punjab’s Sangrur district, has been heavily secured. Barricades have been placed and traffic restrictions imposed as authorities prepare to prevent protesters from entering Haryana.

Police Remain On High Alert

The latest mobilisation comes after two separate incidents in Haryana. In Ambala, a protest by Sikh groups over the arrest of two youths turned tense, with protesters blocking National Highway 44. Police used tear gas and lathi-charge to disperse the gathering after the situation escalated. Several police personnel were injured during the confrontation.

In Hansi, police action against protesters demanding justice in the murder of a local youth has also drawn attention. Videos circulating from the area showed police personnel taking part in the operation, adding to concerns over the handling of protests in the state.

Khanauri Could Become Next Flashpoint

Against this backdrop, authorities are taking precautions at Khanauri. The immediate concern is whether farmers from Punjab will be able to cross into Haryana as part of their planned march towards Delhi.

The administration faces the challenge of maintaining public order while allowing protesters to express their demands peacefully. Any confrontation at the border could further intensify political and social tensions in the region.

The latest developments have once again brought Haryana’s handling of protests into focus. With farmers determined to continue their march and security forces preparing for possible mobilisation, Khanauri is likely to remain under close watch in the coming hours.
