Chief Minister Vijay of Tamil Nadu denied claims that his government was to blame for the deadly stampede in Karur and blamed the police for failing to control the mob. His remarks coincided with an increase in criticism following the tragedy that resulted in multiple fatalities and numerous injuries.
CM Condemns Government.
Vijay, talking to the media, said he was sad over the loss of lives and conveyed his condolences to the families of the victims. But he said the state administration had made sufficient arrangements for the function. The Chief Minister said the tragedy occurred because the police could not control the unusually large crowd and ensure the smooth movement of the people.
