Security Scare Before PM Modi’s Mumbai Visit: Fake PMO ID, Gun-Wielding ‘Bodyguard’ Detained

A security scare was reported in Mumbai ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit after two men were arrested for allegedly trying to gain access to a high-security event using a fake Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) identity card. One of the men reportedly presented himself as a PMO official, while the other claimed to be his bodyguard and was allegedly found carrying a firearm.

Fake Identity Card Raises Alarm

The incident took place at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) in Mumbai’s Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC), where preparations were underway for Prime Minister Modi’s programme. Security personnel became suspicious when a 24-year-old man allegedly claimed to be associated with the PMO and produced an identity card to support his claim.

During verification, officials reportedly discovered that the identity card was fake. The man was subsequently detained for questioning. Police are now investigating where the forged identity card came from and why he allegedly attempted to use it at a venue being prepared for a high-profile event.

‘Bodyguard’ Was Carrying a Gun

The situation became more serious when the man was accompanied by another individual who described himself as his bodyguard. According to reports, the second man was found carrying a firearm.

The weapon has reportedly been described as licensed, but its presence at a venue under heightened security raised immediate concerns. Both men were taken into custody as authorities began investigating their identities, backgrounds and reasons for being at the location.

Crime Branch Takes Over Investigation

The Mumbai Crime Branch is investigating the case to determine whether the two men were acting on their own or whether other people were involved. Investigators are reportedly examining documents, mobile phones and other material recovered from the suspects.

A major focus of the investigation is the alleged fake PMO identity card. Authorities are also trying to establish whether the accused had any genuine connection with government officials or security agencies.

No Confirmed Link With PM Modi’s Visit

Although the arrests took place shortly before Prime Minister Modi’s scheduled Mumbai event, authorities have not established any direct connection between the accused and the Prime Minister’s programme.

The incident has nevertheless highlighted the importance of strict verification procedures during visits by senior political leaders. Security agencies routinely conduct multiple checks around venues where the Prime Minister is scheduled to appear.
