US National Detained Near Indo-Nepal Border in UP, Tried to Cross Without Documents
A US citizen was held near the Indo-Nepal border in Uttar Pradesh’s Maharajganj district after allegedly trying to cross into Nepal without valid travel documents. The man is said to have given conflicting statements during questioning and has been subjected to a detailed probe by various agencies.
Arrested on suspicion of illegal crossing
The man has been identified as US national Jordan Brown.
He was stopped at the border after attempting to cross into Nepal through an unauthorised route, officials said. At that time, he did not have a passport or any other valid travel documents.
Brown allegedly claimed to be a former member of the US military and Special Forces.
Security Probe Receives Conflicting Statements
Brown provided differing responses to questions about who he was, his travel history, and why he was in the area, police said.
The differences led to questions, and security agencies began checking his background and the purpose of his visit near the sensitive border zone.
Villagers Help Capture Escaping Villager
Authorities said Brown allegedly managed to escape the custody of SSB personnel during questioning and tried to run towards Nepal.
According to reports, he was caught by security personnel with the help of local villagers before he could cross the border. Inquiry Begins, Embassy Notified
Police said the detention has been reported to the US Embassy
Several security agencies are now trying to verify Brown’s alleged military service and his travel record abroad.
No espionage angle has been confirmed by officials. They are investigating how he arrived at the border and why he attempted to enter without documents.
Further action will be taken based on the findings of the probe, authorities said.
