Trump Holds First Phone Call With UK's New Prime Minister, Discusses NATO and Iran

The leaders discussed major international issues, including *NATO, Iran and North Sea energy*, and said they want to strengthen ties between Washington and London.

First formal talks
It was the first formal conversation between President Trump and the UK’s new prime minister since they took office. 

Officials on both sides described the talks as constructive with an emphasis on cooperation on security, trade and global challenges.

Security and world affairs on the agenda
The two leaders released statements on a number of pressing issues:
- The future role of NATO and continued defence cooperation
- Iran and the situation in the region. 
- Energy security and North Sea oil in a changing global energy market

The two leaders reaffirmed the importance of close US-UK co-ordination on defence and foreign policy.

Invitation to come to Manchester  
There was also a lighter moment in the call. The British Prime Minister has reportedly invited President Trump to visit Manchester on a future trip to the UK. The gesture was consistent with the friendly tone of the conversation and an effort to maintain strong diplomatic relations, officials said.

Focus on the “special relationship” 
The call underscored the deep and ongoing partnership between the United States and the United Kingdom. Both leaders said they would work closely together on security, trade and other international priorities.
