The monsoon fury in Assam continues to worsen rapidly, leaving large parts of the northeastern state grappling with a severe flood emergency. According to the latest updates released by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), the death toll resulting from the deluge has climbed to 100, while nearly 1.4 lakh citizens remain heavily impacted across various districts.

Major rivers, including the mighty Brahmaputra, continue to flow well above the danger mark, breaching banks and expanding the floodwaters into fresh rural and semi-urban settlements. The relentless surge of water has completely upended daily life, forcing thousands to abandon their homes in search of dry, secure ground.

Golaghat Emerges as the Epicentre of Devastation

Amidst the widespread misery gripping the state, Golaghat district has emerged as the worst-hit territory, bearing the brunt of the riverine overflowing. Official estimates indicate that roughly 70,000 individuals in Golaghat alone are struggling against the rising tides.

Incessant downpours and continuous discharge from upstream barrages have kept water levels dangerously high. The ferocious currents have torn through local roads, bridges, and earthen embankments, severely hampering the movement of emergency response vehicles attempting to reach isolated pockets.

Relief Operations Scramble to Meet Mounting Challenges

In response to the deteriorating crisis, state authorities alongside specialized disaster response teams (NDRF and SDRF) have ramped up evacuation operations and relief camp management. Displaced residents are being shifted to elevated makeshift shelters where basic rations and medical aid are being distributed.

Nonetheless, managing logistics across expanding water expanses remains a daunting hurdle for district administrations.
