Trump Heading to India Next Year as Mega Trade Deal Heats Up
President Donald Trump plans to visit India early next year, according to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Saturday, emphasising the close personal relationship between Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and calling India-US relations "fantastic."

Trump is planning a trip: According to U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, efforts are being made to bring President Donald Trump to India in the early months of 2027.

Modi and Trump are close: Rubio emphasised that President Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have a close personal friendship that makes collaboration much simpler.

A historic return: If this occurs, it will be Trump's first trip to India since February 2020 and his first trip during his second term in office.

US-India trade agreement

The secretary of state's statements coincided with ongoing trade talks between the US and India, as both parties strive to complete a bilateral trade deal.

The planned visit coincides with ongoing talks between Washington and New Delhi on a bilateral trade deal that Rubio claimed was almost finished.

"I think everything is going really well. It has a lot of power. At the G7, we had an excellent meeting with the President and the Prime Minister. Our goal is to complete a trade agreement. It's really encouraging that we're just a few inches away from finishing it," he remarked.

Rubio went on to say that both nations were anticipating another Quad meeting and that he hoped to return to India before the year's end to assist in organising the presidential visit.
