Tripura DGP Anurag Dhankar found dead in Agartala office; tragedy strikes at the top

SHOCK DISCOVERY AT POLICE HQ

Tripura’s security and administrative circles were struck by a wave of shock and grief on Monday with the death of Director General of Police Anurag Dhankar, who was found dead in his office chamber at the state police headquarters in Agartala. The senior IPS officer was found unconscious in the washroom adjacent to his official chamber. Staff, anxious over his long absence inside the room, broke open the door and rushed him to the Govind Ballabh Pant (GBP) Hospital.

The top cop’s life hung in the balance as hospital medical staff scrambled, launching into a frenzy of intensive emergency protocols and medical interventions. Despite all the efforts, the doctors were unable to find any signs of life and officially declared him dead. Initial reports and police sources suggest a suspected suicide, but officials stress that the exact cause of death will only be officially determined after a full post-mortem investigation.

Successful career cut short

The sudden death of the police chief has also created ripples among his colleagues and government officials. Chief Minister Manik Saha, the chief secretary and other top-ranking security personnel rushed to the hospital immediately. Dhankar was a much-respected officer with more than three decades of distinguished service and numerous decorations. He had a distinguished career, holding a variety of senior positions and building a reputation for operational excellence and leadership.
