Residents in British Columbia's 70 Mile House Told to Prepare for Possible Wildfire Evacuation

Wildfire Threat Grows  
The BC Wildfire Service said the fire, located close to 70 Mile House, has expanded due to dry conditions and strong winds. 

An evacuation alert was issued late Sunday, meaning residents should prepare to leave if an evacuation order is given. Officials said the situation could change quickly depending on weather and fire behaviour.

Emergency Officials Monitor Situation 
Fire crews are working to contain the blaze and protect nearby homes. Aircraft have been deployed to drop water, while ground teams are building fireguards.

Emergency management officials are coordinating with local authorities and monitoring wind and temperature forecasts. Road closures and traffic control are in place around the affected area.

Residents Asked to Stay Prepared  
The Cariboo Regional District urged residents to pack medications, important documents, pets, and emergency supplies. 

“Do not wait for an evacuation order if you feel unsafe,” officials said. “Stay tuned to alerts and have a plan.”

Community centers have been set up as reception points if evacuation becomes necessary. Public safety remains the top priority.

British Columbia is in the middle of an active wildfire season, with several fires burning across the province. Dry and hot weather has increased risks.
