Ram Temple Donation Theft Case: Six Held, Rs 7 Crore Allegedly Missing

The alleged theft of donations at the Ayodhya Ram temple has caused a big controversy, with six people being taken into custody. This comes after a formal police complaint was lodged by the governing trust of the temple.

An FIR has been officially lodged against eight persons, of which six were directly engaged in counting the cash offerings brought in by the devotees. Investigators say security cameras recorded the suspects in action syphoning off money during the counting process.

Those named in the case are Anukalp Mishra, Lavkush Mishra, Avinash Shukla, Ramshankar Mishra, Ramashankar Yadav, Manish Yadav, Subhash Chandra Srivastava and Karunesh Pandey. Police are searching for the other two people still on the run, while six people are in custody. Interestingly, one of the absconding suspects, Ramashankar Yadav, is said to be the personal driver of the trust's general secretary, Champat Rai.

Offerings Worth Crores Allegedly Missing

After a preliminary investigation, which culminated in the Trust lodging its formal complaint, the legal process began.

Initial reports have said that the missing donations could be anything between Rs 7 crore and Rs 7.5 crore. But senior officials have declined to give a definitive number at this stage, saying the true extent of the financial shortfall will only be known after an independent audit and a comprehensive financial review.

Political Consequences and Public Pressure

Public outrage was first sparked by the irregularities after opposition leaders expressed grave concerns about the management of the temple's huge daily donations.

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav also attacked the fund management in a public manner and claimed that the crores of rupees donated by common devotees were totally unaccounted for. He demanded a judicial inquiry and questioned why it took so long for the temple trust and state government to act on the early warning signs. Opposition leaders have ratcheted up political pressure since the FIR was registered, demanding accountability from the highest level.

The Investigation Continues

Now investigators are going through hundreds of hours of security footage, probing hiring practices and auditing financial records to see how deep the embezzlement goes.

The team has already found several operational lapses, including lax employee background checks and weak monitoring of the physical transfer of cash from the temple to the bank. With authorities gearing up for stricter legal action against the accused, the incident has sparked a huge national debate on transparency, security and strict accountability in the administration of big religious institutions.
