Pralhad Joshi Takes Charge as Union Education Minister, Says ‘Education Is a New Subject for Me’

Senior BJP leader Pralhad Joshi has officially taken charge as the Union Education Minister after being handed over the portfolio in the recent Cabinet reshuffle. He replaces Dharmendra Pradhan who stepped down from the post. Joshi took charge of office at the Kartavya Bhavan, New Delhi on his first day in office and was received by senior officials of the Ministry of Education.

Education a ‘New Subject’ for Labels

"Education is a new subject for me," Joshi, who assumed the charge, told reporters. He said he wants to take time to learn about the ministry’s responsibilities, current projects and challenges before making any major policy decisions. “I thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi for reposing faith in me and assure him that I will discharge my duties with dedication and work for the benefit of students, teachers and educational institutions across the country,” Joshi said.

First Review Meeting Conducted

The new minister held a meeting with senior ministry officials shortly after taking office. During the discussion, he reviewed the progress of important education programmes and asked for updates on ongoing initiatives. He pointed out the importance of continuity in governance and understanding the ministry’s priorities. He was briefed by officials on important schemes relating to school education, higher education, digital learning and skill development.

The road ahead will be bumpy.

He has held important portfolios including Parliamentary Affairs, Coal, Mines, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution and New & Renewable Energy over the years. He said he is new to the education sector, but hopes his experience in administration will help him understand the responsibilities of the Education Ministry.
