PM Modi Receives Top Honour in Seychelles, Calls for Stronger Maritime Cooperation
During his visit to Seychelles, where he was conferred the title “Guardian of the Blue Horizon”, PM Modi said India’s vision is “to make the Indian Ocean a “Ocean of Opportunity.
Turning the Indian Ocean into a ‘Ocean of Opportunity’
India aims to transform the Indian Ocean into a zone of new possibilities. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a meeting with Seychelles President Wavel Ramkalawan Herminie, emphasised strengthening the ties between the two countries. He said India is ready to step up and support the Seychelles in key areas such as sea security, better infrastructure, trade and the environment.
A Recognition for India's Meaning
To underscore India’s rising stature, Seychelles awarded a special title to PM Modi: “Guardian of the Blue Horizon". This is a gesture to what India has done for the safety and prosperity of the local waters. The Indian Ocean is not merely a blue expanse on the map but a lifeline that connects the countries that surround it in shared prosperity and security,' Modi said.
Securing the Trade Routes
Much of their discussion was about keeping shipping lanes open. The two leaders exchanged views on how to cooperate on shared maritime threats and keep the smooth flow of trade. India and Seychelles have a deep cultural and historical connection, and these fresh talks will inject new energy into their joint military training and local community projects.
Allies Creating a Safer Community
“At the end of the day," Modi said, "India's approach to the Indian Ocean is completely based on mutual respect and caring for each other. “By joining forces with Seychelles, the ultimate goal is to establish a peaceful, reliable neighbourhood where every nation can flourish. The visit truly reflects India’s commitment to be a stable and reliable partner to the island nations facing the complex challenges of the present world.
