Netanyahu heads to Washington with Iran as the main focus

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is headed to Washington for a high-stakes summit, saying he will focus on Tehran when he sits down with President Donald Trump. Netanyahu spoke briefly before climbing aboard his flight from a secure military base, emphasising that steering through these turbulent geopolitical waters demands a careful combination of raw grit and sharp calculation.

The face-to-face comes in the wake of a tense, temporary pause in fighting after weeks of punishing US air strikes and retaliatory cross-border attacks. Both leaders are at an important juncture, considering whether backdoor discussions can produce a lasting deal or whether military orders will soon be revved back up to full throttle.
