“It was a very serious atmosphere. “People were scared,” he said, adding that residents are hoping for a return of peace soon.

The rapid escalation has many in the neighbourhood concerned about safety.

Police step up security, probe continues
Delhi Police increased deployment in Mayur Vihar and adjoining areas after the incident. 

Officers are reviewing CCTV footage, talking to witnesses and trying to establish the sequence of events and those involved.

Police have urged residents to remain calm and not to circulate unverified information on social media that could escalate tensions.

Authorities said the investigation is ongoing and further action will be taken based on the findings.
