Hapur Acid Case: Woman Falls Ill After Drinking From Sealed Water Bottle at Jewellery Shop, Police Probe Underway

Woman Gets ILL Immediately After Drinking
The incident occurred at a jewellery shop in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh. 

The reports said the woman sought drinking water. They reportedly acquired a water bottle from a nearby shop and sealed it. 

She drank and started to vomit. It got worse and worse. The shop people carried her to the hospital.

Doctors Think Acid, Not Water
Hospital doctors found acid in the bottle, not water for drinking. 

The woman is being treated and is reported to be out of danger. She has given her statement, and that will be part of the investigation,” police said.

Police probe CCTV, forensics
Hapur Police registered a case and started an investigation. Authorities are investigating how acid got inside a sealed bottle.

The investigation will include reviewing the CCTV footage from the shop and surrounding area and taking witness statements from shop staff and other witnesses. The bottle has also been submitted for “forensic testing"

Responsibility and cause not ascertained 
The authorities said that only after studying the forensic report and other evidence will it be known what the exact cause of the incident was and who was to blame.

The police have not ruled out any angle, including negligence or deliberate tampering. Further action may be taken as appropriate in the light of the findings.

The incident has shocked residents and sparked fears over product safety in local stores.
