H Vinoth Breaks the Silence on Jana Nayagan and Bhagavanth Kesari

Director H. Vinoth has finally addressed the rumours, confirming that his upcoming political action flick Jana Nayagan (starring Vijay) takes heavy inspiration from Anil Ravipudi’s 2023 Telugu hit Bhagavanth Kesari.

Instead of an outright copy, Vinoth got completely transparent about the math behind the adaptation:

• The Big Picture: Overall, Vinoth admits the film is roughly 50 per cent inspired by the original story.

• How It Splits Down the Middle:

  • The first half stays pretty faithful, sharing about 60 per cent similarity with Bhagavanth Kesari.

  • The second half veers off into entirely different territory, dropping down to just 20 per cent similarity as it leans hard into heavy political themes and classic Vijay-style mass moments.

Flipping the Script for Vijay

Vinoth admitted he was initially hesitant to touch a remake after doing Nerkonda Paarvai (the Tamil version of Pink). But when Vijay personally asked him to watch Bhagavanth Kesari and rethink it, the director jumped on board.

The main challenge? Taking Nandamuri Balakrishna’s original, loud commercial style and reshaping it to fit Vijay's vibe and what Tamil fans expect. While the emotional core—especially the powerful theme of women's empowerment—remains untouched, the rest of the script got a massive structural makeover for the big screen.
