Emraan Hashmi’s Awarapan 2 Storms the Box Office, Crosses First Film’s Lifetime Earnings on Day 1

Emraan Hashmi’s much-awaited Awarapan 2 has made a powerful start at the box office, delivering the actor’s biggest opening in his career. Released on August 14, the sequel has generated strong interest among audiences, particularly fans of the 2007 cult classic Awarapan.

Strong Opening for Emraan Hashmi

According to early box-office reports, Awarapan 2 earned around ₹21.5 crore net in India on its opening day, with some trade reports putting the figure at approximately ₹22 crore. The film also recorded a worldwide gross of nearly ₹27–29 crore on Day 1, depending on the tracking source.

The opening is particularly significant for Emraan Hashmi as it marks his biggest opening-day performance to date. The film has benefited from the popularity of the original, audience nostalgia and the return of Hashmi as Shivam Pandit.

Original’s Lifetime Collection Surpassed

The biggest talking point is that Awarapan 2 has already crossed the reported lifetime theatrical earnings of the 2007 original. Awarapan, despite receiving positive reviews and later developing a strong cult following, had an underwhelming theatrical run when it was originally released.

Directed by Nitin Kakkar, Awarapan 2 features Emraan Hashmi alongside Disha Patani and Shabana Azmi. The film has arrived during the Independence Day weekend, giving it an important opportunity to maintain its momentum over the following days.

The movie is also competing with Sunny Deol’s Batwara 1947, which released around the same time. Early figures show Awarapan 2 comfortably ahead in the opening-day race.
