From Comedy King to Courtroom Battle: Rajpal Yadav Faces Jail in ₹9 Crore Case

Popular Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav received a severe setback in his legal battle as the Delhi High Court confirmed his conviction in a cheque bounce case involving an alleged liability of nearly Rs 9 crore. The court rejected the actor’s appeal and confirmed the three-month jail term awarded by the trial court in connection with seven bounced cheques issued to businessman Madhav Gopal Agrawal.

A 10-Year Financial Dispute

The legal battle dates back to 2012, when Yadav allegedly took a loan from Murli Projects Pvt. Ltd, owned by businessman Madhav Gopal Agrawal. Apparently, the actor was handed over several cheques as compensation. But the cheques were dishonoured for want of funds and criminal proceedings were initiated under the Negotiable Instruments Act.

The complainant then approached the doors of the court alleging that even after several chances and assurances the amount was not paid. The total liability over the years is said to have crossed about ₹9 crore, including interest and other dues.

High Court Denies Relief

The Delhi High Court has upheld the ruling of the trial court that Rajpal Yadav was given several opportunities to settle the matter, but he did not comply with the directions of the court. Hence, the court did not interfere with the conviction and confirmed the earlier awarded three months imprisonment.

The complainant’s lawyer said the court had taken a serious note of the repeated non-compliance and delays in repayment before arriving at its decision.

Legal options remain available.

Rajpal Yadav is not likely to be sent to jail straight away but the conviction has been upheld. The actor still had the option of going to a higher court or exploring other legal avenues before the sentence is carried out, legal experts said.

The development has garnered much interest, given Yadav’s long career as one of Bollywood’s most celebrated comic actors. The ruling is a big setback for the actor, but the legal case is not over yet, and what happens next will depend on what the actor decides to do and what the judges decide next.
