French Police Arrest Man After Knife Attacks on Three Women in Paris

Paris Metro Area Terrorised by Daytime Stabbing

A gruesome attack in broad daylight sent shockwaves through northwestern Paris on Monday when a knife-wielding attacker randomly struck pedestrians near the Porte de Clichy transport hub. The attacker, who was armed with two separate kitchen knives, ran at three unsuspecting women aged 19, 24 and 36, sending the busy street into immediate panic.

Two of the victims were fighting for their lives with brutal wounds to the abdomen and lower back, while one of the injured women is pregnant, local officials later confirmed. All three casualties were rushed by emergency medics to nearby hospitals as police units cordoned off the entire transit zone, leaving morning commuters completely shaken.

Smart Bystanders Grab and Disarm Attacker

Before law enforcement officers could arrive to stop the bloodshed, ordinary citizens stepped up with incredible bravery. Brave bystanders hurled a small suitcase at the attacker, knocking him off balance and forcing him to drop his weapons in frantic scenes captured by witnesses.

Another local stepped in to sweep the man's legs from under him, sending him crashing down on to the pedestrian crossing. Civilians worked together, piling on top of him to pin the struggling suspect to the asphalt. A nearby off-duty police officer happened to be nearby and rushed over to formally slap the cuffs on him and lock down the scene.

Authorities Weigh Terror Charges in Murky Motivations

As the bloodied pavement grew still, investigators began to work to unravel the reasons for the attack. During the arrest, the suspect arrested muttered scattered, jumbled statements, including religious phrases, Interior Minister Laurent Nunez told reporters.

But officials have cautioned against leaping to conclusions, noting the attacker’s comments seemed to be totally incoherent and raised questions about possible underlying mental health issues. France's national anti-terrorism prosecutor's office has taken over to decide whether to open a formal terrorism investigation as the community struggles with the daylight violence.
