E20 Janta Party Launches Campaign Seeking Consumer Choice in Fuel Selection

New Political Force Comes to the Fore
The E20 Janta Party was launched this week with a simple message: motorists should be free to decide what fuel they put into their vehicles.

The group, which was formed to represent “common car and bike owners” who are worried about the nationwide rollout of 20% ethanol-blended petrol, or E20, said in posts on Instagram, X and Facebook. 

“We are not anti-progress. “We’re for choice,” read one of the campaign posts. The party says it will raise awareness, collect signatures and lobby for multiple fuel options for pumps.

Fuel Selection Matters
The party’s key demand is to have both E20 and 100% petrol available side by side so consumers can choose depending on the type of their vehicle, age and preference.

The group’s statements raised concerns about mileage, engine compatibility in older cars and a lack of clear information when buying. 

“A lot of people bought cars before E20 was announced. They deserve a choice that’s best for their engine,” said the campaign. It also called for improved labelling at the pumps and more clarity from manufacturers.

Social Media Responds
The launch quickly became viral, with users sharing memes comparing E20 Janta Party to other single-issue groups. 

Some jumped into the debate. “Finally someone is talking about consumer rights in fuel,” another user said. And others questioned the feasibility. “Are we going to have two different pumps for each grade? “Who’s going to pay for that?

Experts noted that the conversation is valid, but the E20 rollout is planned with consultation from the auto industry and aims to cut down on emissions and import dependence.

Fuel Policy Is Still Debated  
The party's rise has re-ignited debate over ethanol-blended fuel, its impact on older cars, pricing and consumer awareness.

The government says E20 is safe for vehicles made after 2023, and older cars can run on it with minor modifications. Automakers, too, have been asked to provide buyers with some clarity.

It remains to be seen whether the E20 Janta Party will gain wider political traction, but it has already succeeded in putting the fuel choice back into public conversation.
