Delhi Metro Services Around Jantar Mantar Disrupted Amid Protest Security Measures

Metro connectivity is impacted by security measures  
To regulate the movement of crowds and ensure that order was maintained around the protest site, the Delhi Police and DMRC worked in coordination to impose restrictions at key stations around Jantar Mantar.

Entry and exit at a few stations on the central Delhi stretch were regulated throughout the day, DMRC announcements said. Trains kept running, but no passengers were allowed to board or disembark at the most affected stations during peak protest hours.

The officials said the move was precautionary and was to prevent overcrowding near the demonstration area. Such measures have been used in the past during large gatherings in the area.

Travel problems for commuters 
The sudden restrictions led to confusion for daily commuters, office-goers and tourists who use the central Delhi metro corridor.

Direct metro access was limited, and many passengers had to walk longer distances from the nearest operational station. Others took to auto-rickshaws, buses, and cabs to cover the last stretch.

“It’s normally a 10-minute metro ride for me. Today I had to get down two stations before and walk for 20 minutes,” said a commuter on his way to Connaught Place. 

Footfall dropped around the affected stations as well, with street vendors and shop owners in the vicinity also reporting fewer customers.

At stations, DMRC staff were seen guiding passengers and announcing alternate routes through the public address system.
Alternate routes suggested: Delhi Metro officials advised travellers to check live updates on the DMRC app and social media before they start their journey.

Some regular commuters suggested taking buses, autos or walking from interchange points like New Delhi Metro Station or Rajiv Chowk to reach areas around Jantar Mantar. 

“Allow extra time. “The stations near the protest site are under restriction, so it’s better to get down earlier,” one passenger posted online.

Authorities also added more frequent feeder buses on some routes to help cope with the increased load.

The situation is under surveillance by authorities
Delhi Police said security arrangements around Jantar Mantar will be reviewed regularly depending on how the protests progress. 

DMRC said normal metro operations will be resumed once the situation is stabilised and security agencies give clearance. 

Student protests in the area have been linked to demands regarding the education system and recent exam-related issues. Similar disruptions were seen earlier in the week, with authorities balancing the right to protest against public convenience.

For now, commuters have been requested to keep themselves updated and factor in extra travel time if they need to travel through central Delhi.

Officials said normal service would resume once the security restrictions were lifted.
