Centre Under Pressure: CJP Warns of Fresh Nationwide Protests Over ‘Promise Breach’
The CJP has accused the Centre of violating assurances made during talks that ended its prolonged protest. Alleging continued police action and delays in withdrawing FIRs, the organisation has warned of fresh nationwide demonstrations if its demands are not met. CJP Alleges Government Failed to Keep Its Word
The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has warned of a fresh round of nationwide protests, accusing the Centre of failing to honour commitments made during negotiations that led to the suspension of its weeks-long agitation. The student-led organisation claimed that assurances regarding the withdrawal of police cases and protection from further action have not been fulfilled. The warning comes just days after talks between CJP representatives and Union ministers resulted in a temporary pause in the protests.
Demands Yet to Be Met
Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, CJP leaders alleged that several students and volunteers continue to face arrests, detention and harassment despite the agreement reached on July 25. The group said it had suspended its agitation in good faith, expecting all FIRs against protesters to be withdrawn and no fresh criminal cases to be filed. However, it claimed that police action has continued in multiple states, prompting concerns over what it described as a breach of trust by the government.
Legal Support and New Campaign
Senior advocate and Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal extended legal support to protesters facing police action. He said lawyers across the country would assist students and activists in challenging cases filed against them. The CJP also launched an online platform called "Saakshi", where protesters can upload photographs, videos and other evidence of alleged police excesses. According to the organisation, the portal will help document incidents and strengthen legal action wherever necessary.
Warning of Renewed Agitation
CJP leaders stated that if the Centre does not fulfil its commitments and provide written assurance regarding the withdrawal of cases, the organisation will be left with no option but to resume its nationwide movement. They urged the government to restore confidence by implementing the agreed measures without delay. Meanwhile, security has been heightened in Delhi and other sensitive locations as authorities monitor the situation closely. The Centre has not yet issued a detailed response to the latest allegations.
