US and Ukraine Sign Drone Testing Agreement as Peace Talks With Russia Show Fresh Signs of Progress

The two countries will cooperate on testing, developing and upgrading unmanned aerial systems under the new agreement. Officials said the partnership is aimed at improving Ukraine’s defence capabilities and allowing both sides to share technical expertise.

The deal is a sign of the centrality of drone technology in modern warfare. Over the last three years, drones have been widely used in Ukraine for surveillance, intelligence gathering, targeting and long-range strikes. An American defence official said the partnership would also help US manufacturers, who could test systems in the field, while providing Ukraine with newer technology and training.

Peace talks are back on the table
