Sonam Wangchuk continues hunger strike from hospital after Delhi protest crackdown A stand against police brutality

Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk said he will not back down and will continue his indefinite hunger strike after witnessing the police crack down hard on young protesters during the Cockroach Janta Party's march to Parliament.

Wangchuk, writing from his bed at Safdarjung Hospital, where he was rushed and put under medical observation after being cleared out of the Jantar Mantar protest site, said he was deeply distressed by the tear gas, lathicharges and general mayhem unleashed on peaceful student protesters. In an impassioned, handwritten note that quickly passed among supporters, he made his uncompromising position clear:
Witnessing the brutal manner in which peaceful protesting youth are being dealt with, I have decided to continue my fast till the youth leaders are allowed to meet the parliamentarians at the Sansad Bhawan or I am allowed to meet them here at the hospital.

Conditions to Break the Fast

Wangchuk’s protest has continued with his demands for accountability in India’s education system, including a strong call for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over repeated irregularities in exams. Earlier hopes pointed to a possible resolution and dialogue, but this violent escalation has raised the stakes dramatically. Wangchuk is standing his ground, saying his fast will continue until the authorities either allow student representatives to meet lawmakers directly inside Parliament or give the green light for those leaders to visit him right there at the hospital so they can keep driving the movement forward together.
