Singer Papon Appeals for Support as Assam Continues to Battle Devastating Floods

The Assamese singer took to social media with an emotional note and also shared a video where he talks about the situation back home.

“Do not forget Assam after the headlines are over,” he said. “That’s when they need us the most. He added, “Please, Assam, stay steady. Fans, fellow artists and NGOs quickly embraced the video and passed it around.

But Thousands Suffer  
Though flood waters have receded in many districts, the damage is extensive. State officials say this season lakhs of people in several districts have been affected. 

Many families have lost their homes, their crops and their livestock. Roads, bridges and schools in low-lying areas remain damaged, limiting communities’ access to basic services. 

Thousands remain in makeshift relief camps with limited access to clean drinking water, food and medical care. Some areas are still under stagnant water, and health workers are also on the lookout for water-borne diseases.

“We are asking people, companies and volunteer groups to help in any way they can, whether it is donations, supplies or on-the-ground help,” Papon said. 

“Even small help can make a big difference to someone trying to get their life back,” he said. 

Following his appeal, messages flooded social media with the hashtag #SupportAssam. Some NGOs say they are working with local authorities to send dry rations, hygiene kits and tarpaulins to the worst-hit villages.

Relief Work in All Parts of Assam 
State government agencies, NDRF, SDRF and local volunteers are still on relief operations in the affected districts. Relief camps are functional, where distribution of food packets, drinking water and medicines is being continued along with medical camps.

Now the focus is on rehabilitation, repairing embankments, restoring roads and helping displaced families return home safely, officials said. Officials also urged giving through verified channels so aid reaches the most vulnerable.

As Assam moves from rescue to recovery, voices like Papon’s are helping keep the focus on the long road ahead for flood-hit communities.
