Ravi Kishan Exits Reality Show The Alliance Midway to Resume MP Duties
BJP MP and actor Ravi Kishan has walked out of the reality show The Alliance mid-season to get back to his work as a Member of Parliament. His move brought back an online debate about the balance between politics and entertainment.
Earlier this year
The Alliance inducted Kishan, the Lok Sabha MP from Gorakhpur. He appeared in a few episodes, and soon he was one of the most talked-about contestants. But he walked off the show halfway through last week, saying he had to focus on his constituency and his Parliamentary duties.
From Movies to Parliament
Everyone knows that Ravi Kishan has made the transition from films to politics. He was a professional of Hindi and Bhojpuri cinema and had worked in over 700 films for over three decades. His movies like Tere Naam, Luck, and many hit Bhojpuri movies made him a household name, especially in UP and Bihar. He started his political journey with the Bharatiya Janata Party and won the Gorakhpur Lok Sabha seat in 2019. He was returned to office by a large majority in 2024. As a member of Parliament, he has raised issues related to recognition of the Bhojpuri language, development of the film industry in Uttar Pradesh, and local development work in Gorakhpur. Kishan has kept his ties with entertainment even as an MP. He was involved in film and television productions, often saying cinema is his first love and politics his duty.
Stint on The Alliance
The Alliance is a reality TV show that takes celebrities and puts them in team challenges and tasks. Kishan’s entry evoked strong reactions from the beginning. Many viewers said they liked his no-nonsense talk and energy on the show. Video clips of him working circulated on Instagram and X. However, with the upcoming Parliament session and work to be done in his constituency, Kishan told the makers of the show that he would have to leave. Sources close to him have said he does not want his TV commitments to clash with his role as an elected representative.
Duty Before Self”
“My first responsibility is public service,” Kishan said briefly. I thank The Alliance team and fans for their love, but my people in Gorakhpur need me. Duty first. Many supporters have celebrated his departure. Social media posts lauded him for putting the work of Parliament above television. One user said, “This is how a leader should be – know when to step back for the people. Others said they would miss him on the show but respected his decision. There were dissenters. Some viewers said he should never have been on the show in the first place if he was going to leave early. A few comments asked whether MPs should be doing reality TV while in office.
The Bigger Debate
Kishan is not the first politician to appear on TV or films while in office, but his mid-season exit has brought the issue back into focus. Jobs, roads and health services in Gorakhpur still need work, and political analysts say voters today expect full-time attention from their MPs. Kishan is again in Delhi and Gorakhpur, attending meetings and local events for now. The Alliance producers confirmed his exit, thanking him for his time on the show. The online debate is raging, but one thing is for sure: Ravi Kishan is a man who walks the thin line between parliament and popular culture with élan, even if it means making tough choices about his place at any given point in time.
