Puja Inside Luxury Train Coach Goes Viral, Northern Railway Clarifies It Didn’t Break Any Rules

This clarification was made after the clip went viral on social media, with many questioning whether religious rituals are allowed during train journeys.

The Viral Video
The video shows a priest performing puja with some devotees inside a train compartment. The video went viral, and people started asking if such ceremonies are allowed in railway coaches.

It was a hired luxury private saloon
In reply to questions, Northern Railway said the ritual was not performed in a regular passenger coach.

Instead, it was held in a luxury private saloon coach, which was officially booked through IRCTC. The booking was for a one-way journey in

Paschim Express from New Delhi to Mumbai.

Booking was fully authorised
Railway officials said the group paid ₹308,580 in advance to charter the premium coach.

These saloon coaches feature air-conditioned bedrooms, a lounge, and a kitchenette. Passengers booking these coaches can use the space as per their wish, subject to safety and operational rules, officials said.

Railway claims no rule violation
Northern Railway said there was no violation of rules, as the puja was held in a legally booked private coach and not in a public compartment.

The statement was released to dispel confusion after the video sparked a debate about the use of railway property for religious functions.

The railway has no problem with the debate, for now, as the ceremony was private, paid for, and according to the rules.
