Murder, Not Accident: Pune Man's Death at Lohagad Fort; Fiancée, Alleged Lover Held

Birthday Walk Becomes 400-Foot Murder Plot

A tragic tale of a trekking mishap at the picturesque Lohagad Fort near Pune has turned into a chilling tale of treachery, clandestine lovers and murder. Police have arrested a young woman and her secret boyfriend for luring her fiancé to the fort to celebrate her birthday in advance and then pushing him into the 400-foot-deep abyss in a shocking incident.

The victim, Ketan Vishal Agrawal, 26, was a well-known resident of Gahunje and director of the family-owned real estate company, police said. He had his whole life ahead of him and no idea he was walking into a trap.

“He fell over trying to take a photo."

The nightmare began June 18. Ketan was planning a fun, breezy trek up Lohagad Fort with his fiancée Siya Goyal and two close friends.

When Ketan went over the edge, Siya had a plausible story for the Lonavala Rural Police. It was very windy; Ketan had gone too close to the edge to take a photo and lost his balance and had fallen accidentally into the gorge. The police considered it a tragic freak accident, filed an accidental death report and opened a routine inquiry.

But the story didn't remain straight for long. But investigators soon saw glaring inconsistencies in Siya’s version of events. Several red flags emerged during the initial questioning which led the detectives to dig much deeper into Ketan’s personal life and financial ties, said Pune Rural Superintendent of Police Sandip Singh Gill.

That's when the facade fell apart completely.

A Secret Lover And a Deadly Plot
Police discovered a secret relationship between Siya and 22-year-old Chetan Babulal Chaudhary, a resident of Pune's Kondhwa area.

Now, investigators feel Siya and Chetan joined hands to remove Ketan from the picture forever. The “birthday celebration” trek was said to be a simple evil ploy to take Ketan to a secluded, dangerous place to carry out their plan. Authorities say the pair then found the perfect vantage point from which to ambush Ketan and push him to his death.

The Consequences

Murder charges. Now Chetan and Siya are behind the bars. Pune’s community is in shock after this unexpected turn of events, turning a tragic tale of trekking safety cautionary into a high-profile criminal investigation.

As the case progresses, detectives are following the digital and forensic trail, combing through phone records, text messages and timeline data to build a watertight case against the pair. It’s a sobering reminder that sometimes the most tragic accidents hide a much more calculated and sinister reality.
