MP Land Dispute: Why Congress Wants Supreme Court To Investigate CM Mohan Yadav Family Assets

Political Storm: Congress Accuses Huge Land Scam Involving CM Mohan Yadav’s Family

The political temperature in Madhya Pradesh has just reached the boiling point. The Congress party has gone into overdrive with allegations against Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, demanding a high judicial probe into what they claim is a well-orchestrated, multi-crore land acquisition scheme revolving around the holy city of Ujjain.

Neither is the opposition happy with a routine probe. It is calling for a full-fledged investigation by a sitting or retired Supreme Court judge to find out if the CM’s inner circle had insider access to upcoming government mega-projects.

The Alleged Plan: Buy Low, Pump with Taxpayer Cash

At a jam-packed press conference in Bhopal, Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar didn’t mince words. There had been an “extensive and well-planned” strategy to artificially inflate land values, he said. The playbook, Congress said, was simple but extremely effective. Find pockets of land, buy them up quietly through family members or shell companies, then announce massive government infrastructure projects or highway expansions right through those very areas.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav insists that all transactions were perfectly legal and strictly by the book. Singhar fired back, saying it will take an independent judicial committee to determine whether the state’s highest office was used to dish out undue financial favours.

By the Numbers: 253 Acres, 137 Plots

To back its claims, Congress released a detailed report of the real estate footprint of the Yadav family. The numbers they came up with are staggering:

The Recent Surge: Yadav’s close family members, such as his wife, son, daughter-in-law, and other relatives, allegedly bought around 168 acres of land in 137 different plots in Ujjain between December 2023 and December 2025.

The Long Game The family is said to have amassed an eye-watering 253 acres of land since 2021, just as Yadav first rose to ministry in the MP government.

These multi-crore deals were not done using the personal names but were routed through four different real estate firms that were directly linked to the family, the report said.

The Ujjain Connection: Roads, Real Estate & Master Plan

Ujjain is Mohan Yadav’s home turf; nobody’s disputing that. He was a three-time MLA from Ujjain South and also headed the Ujjain Development Authority and MP Tourism Development Corporation. We have been in the real estate business for many years.

The controversy is deeper, though, because a large chunk of the newly acquired land is right on the proposed route of future state road projects. More conveniently, large parts of these plots are directly under the forthcoming Ujjain Master Plan 2035, to be transformed from cheap agricultural land into high-value commercial and residential zones.

What's next?

Madhya Pradesh braces for a tough political battle as Congress digs in its heels. The opposition is trying to make this a classic case of conflict of interest and insider trading, while the ruling BJP establishment is getting ready to mount an aggressive defence of the transactions as legitimate private business ventures.

Whether the call for a Supreme Court-led inquiry will actually force the government to act remains to be seen. But one thing is sure: Ujjain's real estate boom has just become Madhya Pradesh's biggest political battlefield.
