Major Accident Averted After Construction Material Falls at Surat Building Site

Heavy construction material from the upper floor of a house under construction fell down a narrow street below, local reports say. There were some pedestrians on the lane. Simultaneously, 

Seconds later, footage from a nearby CCTV camera shows people reacting and moving out of the way just in time. And the debris left behind on the road only minutes after they passed  evidence of how close they’d come to a serious tragedy. 

The video quickly went viral on social media, with many pointing out the vulnerability of public spaces during ongoing construction work.

No serious injuries were reported
Fortunately,y no one was killed in the accident. Local sources said those who were close to the site were lightly injured. The debris dropped to the floor and was contained and cleaned up quickly. 

It could have been much more crowded at a different time of day, residents said. There was a general fear that there was no apparent safety at the site, and many said the incident could have been catastrophic if there had been more people around.

Safety issues in residential neighbourhoods
The incident once again raised questions on the safety norms in construction. Experts say simple measures such as protective barriers, safety nets, debris chutes, warning signs,s and barricaded work zones are critical, especially when construction is next to homes and busy streets. 

Builders and contractors have been told by authorities to follow safety rules strictly for the safety of workers and the public. Limbayat is a densely populated area, and a small slip can be fatal.

This viral CCTV footage is doing the rounds as a reminder of what can go wrong if safety protocols are not followed. Citizens and local groups have asked for more monitoring and enforcement of active sites to stop this from happening again.

Luckily, this accident didn’t lead to any serious injuries, but it is a reminder that accountability is key at every step of a project – from planning to execution.
