Karnataka SIR Drive: Over 12.48 Lakh Enumeration Forms Distributed on Day One

If you are in Karnataka you might want to watch out for a knock on the door over the next few weeks. The Election Commission has kicked off its massive exercise to clean up the voters list, and they mean business. On the very first day, booth-level officers managed to distribute more than 12.48 lakh verification forms.

“The whole point of this month-long campaign is fixing mistakes, adding new eligible voters and clearing out old, duplicate or incorrect entries before the next election cycle.”

What is the state of the art?

Karnataka has a huge poll base of around 5.54 crore voters. To deal with such a long list, officials have pre-mapped over 91% of the database, so the field teams know exactly who they need to check in on.

The first day was a real sprint as thousands of officers descended on neighbourhoods across the state. Already they have begun the necessary housekeeping — tracking down duplicate registrations, updating addresses of those who have moved and deleting names of those who have died.

What do you have to do?

The door-to-door drive is happening now through July 29. The process when an officer comes to your house is pretty simple:

Review the Pre-Filled Data: We will give you a form with your basic information printed on it.

Verify and Sign: Just check to make sure your name, age and address are spelt correctly; sign it and give it back.

Not Home? If you miss them don’t sweat it. The teams will be doing follow-up visits and even planning special weekend drives so working professionals aren't left out.

Good to Know: You do not have to hand over your original physical ID cards to the officers. This is a fast ID check to make sure the public records match reality.
