Kalpana Iyer Reflects on Her Film Journey, Says Rajshri Productions Shaped Both Her First and Last Movies

A journey that came full circle
Kalpana Iyer made her debut with Manokaamnaa in 1979 opposite Raj Kiran, she said. Produced by Rajshri Productions. 

She signed off from films twenty years later with 1999’s Hum Saath Saath Hain, also a Rajshri production. 

She called it a “beautiful coincidence” and said it felt like her journey in cinema had come full circle.

One missed opportunity changed everything
Kalpana recalled her visit to London in 1978 for her Miss World commitments in her post. She was signed for a project with filmmaker Vinod Pandey but had to come back to India after receiving a call from Rajshri Productions.

It was an offer to act in the lead role in Manokaamnaa. She also said that actress Deepti Naval was being considered for the film but couldn't take it up due to another shooting schedule.

Kalpana praised the production house for its professionalism, discipline and warmth.
