John Abraham Buys Bandra West Bungalow for ₹84 Crore, Expands Mumbai Property Portfolio
Actor John Abraham has bought a freehold bungalow in Mumbai’s Bandra West for ₹84 crore, following his ₹70.83-crore property purchase in Khar in 2023.
Buying A Prime Mumbai Property
Mumbai: Bollywood star John Abraham has once again made a big splash in the city's luxury real estate market with the purchase of a sprawling bungalow in the upmarket neighbourhood of Bandra West for a whopping Rs 84 crore. The freehold property is situated on the sought-after St. Martin Road and sits on a sprawling plot of 1,017.60 sqm with an existing bungalow of approximately 193.12 sqm build-up and a 31.50 sqm outhouse.
The deal was formally registered, according to property registration papers, with the actor paying an additional ₹5.04 crore as stamp duty. This follows his major real estate play in late 2023 when he acquired a property in Khar for around ₹70.83 crore.
Mumbai’s Trend of ‘Trophy Homes’
John’s latest investment is a microcosm of a larger trend, one that is accelerating rapidly in elite neighbourhoods in Mumbai like Bandra and Juhu. With developable land at a premium and prime freehold plots virtually non-existent, standalone bungalows and heritage properties attract a huge scarcity premium. The city’s luxury real estate market remains remarkably resilient and competitive, as high-net-worth individuals, business families and celebrities continue to view these trophy assets as the ultimate long-term investment.
The Charm of Coastal Living and Architectural Freedom
For stars like John Abraham, known for his love of eye-catching architecture and minimalist modern design – like his sea-facing penthouse in Bandra – a standalone bungalow provides unparalleled privacy and creative control. Unlike high-rise luxury apartments with shared amenities and association rules, a private plot on a historic street like St. Martin Road allows owners to completely customise their living spaces from the ground up.
The Mumbai skyline is changing with high-rise skyscrapers and the appeal of owning a piece of old-school independent real estate has only increased. This class of assets, heritage and low-rise, is an exclusive one and rarely changes hands. This multi crore deal has helped John Abraham add to his presence in the most prestigious pin codes of Mumbai, proving that standalone real estate still remains the ultimate status symbol of the elite of the city.
