iPhone 18 Pro Max to Have Largest Battery Yet

Initial industry leaks indicate that Apple’s next iPhone 18 Pro Max will feature a significant battery upgrade. If accurate, this will be the first time a regular iPhone has exceeded the 5,400mAh mark.

Interestingly, the phone’s physical design offers a unique twist: the actual capacity of the battery inside the device may depend entirely on where you buy it.

SIM Tray Space Trade-off

Leaks reveal two different battery capacities for the Pro Max model, depending on how the phone connects to cellular networks in different regions:

eSIM-Only Models (e.g., U.S. Version) 5,425mAh

Physical SIM Models (Global versions) 5,235mAh

This difference illustrates how close together the insides of a modern smartphone actually are. Engineers are using that reclaimed pocket of space to add a slightly bigger battery cell in countries where Apple has completely removed the physical SIM card slot.

What That Means for Daily Use

Spec sheets can make a phone look good with a higher capacity, but the real-world benefit is how efficiently the phone uses that power.

The new iPhone range will likely be powered by Apple’s next-gen A20 Pro processor, which is rumoured to be built on a very efficient 2-nanometre process. Pair that with a larger physical battery and a chip designed to sip power, and you have a phone that should be able to go a lot longer during heavy gaming, HD video streaming and AI-intensive tasks.

Keep in mind that Apple has never shared raw battery numbers publicly, preferring to talk about overall hours of video playback. These numbers are from early supply chain leaks, so we’ll have to wait for independent hardware teardowns to get the exact layout.

If Apple sticks to its typical release schedule, we should see the official reveal at its usual fall hardware event.
