Impostor' Remark Sparks Fresh Row: Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu Targets Diljit Dosanjh Amid 'Satluj' Controversy
He said the Centre had no role in the film's removal from ZEE5 and does not control OTT platforms.
Diljit comes under fire from Minister
Actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh’s film Satluj has acquired a new political dimension after Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu publicly slammed the Punjabi star, calling him a “impostor”. The comments come in the middle of the ongoing debate over the film’s removal from OTT platform ZEE5, and has garnered widespread reactions from political leaders, artistes and fans.
Government dismisses OTT ruling
In response to the controversy, Bittu clarified that the removal of Satluj from the streaming platform had nothing to do with the central government. He said that OTT platforms have no control over the content they provide, the content is decided by the platforms themselves. The minister further added that he was criticising Diljit Dosanjh and not the movie.
Remarks on Diljit’s Public Persona
Bittu also questioned Diljit’s public image and his representation in the film Chamkila in his comments. The minister said his objections were about what he called contradictions in the actor's public image, not about the story of Satluj. His comments have only added fuel to the fire of the debate surrounding the actor and the film.
Satluj Still Makes Support
Some political leaders and film fraternity members have already taken umbrage at Satluj’s removal from ZEE5. The film, based on the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, is said to have important historical issues and deserves to be seen by audiences. The controversy has also led to discussions on artistic freedom, censorship and the role of digital platforms in content moderation.
Debate Offers No End in Sight
Satluj is still making headlines and the fresh political statements are fanning the controversy. While the fans of the movie are demanding for its OTT release, the recent interaction between political leaders and Diljit Dosanjh has kept the issue in the limelight of public discourse.
