'I'm Proud to Be Called a Clown': Anupam Kher Reacts to Naseeruddin Shah's Remark
Anupam Kher responded calmly after Naseeruddin Shah reportedly called him a "clown" in a recent interview.
Veteran actor Anupam Kher has hit back at co-actor Naseeruddin Shah after the latter reportedly called him a “clown” in a recent interview. To this Kher calmly replied that he was neither surprised nor offended by it and respected Shah’s right to express his opinion.
On the controversy, Kher said he has known Naseeruddin Shah for many years. “I know that the veteran actor speaks his mind. “I don’t like to react. I am confident about my journey as an actor. I rather focus on my work than get angry,” says Kher.
“If being passionate about my country, my beliefs and my work means I am called a ‘clown’ then I am happy being called that,” Kher said. “I am proud to be called a clown if that is what people think,” he said adding that such remarks do not bother him.
Kher: Says Opinions Vary
The actor said that people in creative fields have different ideologies and perspectives, and differences should not overshadow years of contribution to cinema. “But I respect Shah’s acting ability a lot, even when we don’t see eye to eye,” he said.
Kher also said he does not believe in fighting back with personal attacks. He preferred to let his work and accomplishments do the talking. "Healthy debate is part of the democratic process and everyone is entitled to their own opinion," he said.
