Hindustan Zinc Names Amarendu Prakash CEO-Designate as Q1 Profit More Than Doubles
Hindustan Zinc has appointed former SAIL chairman Amarendu Prakash as CEO-designate from August 1. The company’s Q1FY27 net profit more than doubled on higher zinc and silver prices.

India’s mining and metals sector has bagged a big win with Hindustan Zinc Limited, a leading Vedanta Group company, announcing a spectacular set of financial results for the first quarter. The company recorded a consolidated net profit more than double on the back of a strong global commodity rally and rising demand, sending ripples of excitement through the market and cementing its position as a global leader in zinc and silver production.
Numbers don’t lie. Hindustan Zinc's net profit surged 145% year-on-year to ₹5,469 crore compared to ₹2,234 crore during the same period last year. Revenue from operations jumped 77% to ₹13,747 crore, buoyed by high base metal and silver prices, higher production volumes and positive currency dynamics. Besides this, the company posted its highest ever quarter EBITDA at ₹8,074 crore with an enviable margin of 59%. The company has managed to cut down production costs with smart operational efficiencies. To reward its shareholders, the board declared a hefty interim dividend of ₹11 per share on this milestone.

Before joining Hindustan Zinc, he was Chairman of the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), where he led massive modernisation and output initiatives.
