'Encourage Us, Don't Pull Us Down': Dhanush Shares Message for Aspiring Artists

Dhanush wants positivity
The National Award winner has penned an emotional note for his fans and aspiring actors.

“All artists work hard to entertain you. He wrote, "Appreciate the effort, give feedback, but also encourage.” “That’s what helps us to push ourselves.”

The film industry already has a lot of pressure, and words from the audience matter a lot in shaping an artist's journey, said Dhanush.

Success is not without its challenges
Speaking about his own career, Dhanush said making it big in cinema was never easy. This means years of dedication, rejection and education.

“Criticism comes with the territory. We learn by it," he said. “But negativity and putting someone down isn’t helpful to anyone. It just makes it more difficult.”

He said scrutiny is part of the process for new and established artists, and a little kindness from the audience can go a long way.

Support Fosters Creativity
Dhanush says encouragement gives actors, writers and directors the courage to take risks and experiment.

“You tell an artist, ‘I liked this, try more of that,’ and that motivates them,” he said. That's how cinema evolves."

He said he welcomes constructive criticism, but it should be done with respect for the work that goes into a movie or a performance.

Fans Go Crazy Over His Message
The post soon went viral, with fans and fellow actors alike sharing it. Many agreed that criticism is important but should not eclipse appreciation.

“I needed this reminder,” one fan commented. “We love you for saying that.”

Dhanush's message comes at a time when a lot of young actors have spoken up against online trolling and pressure on social media, making his call for positivity echo louder in the industry.
