Delhi Rain Brings Relief From Humidity; Chhatarpur Records 49 mm Showers

After days of sticky, uncomfortable weather, a sudden change in weather patterns brought widespread moderate showers to the national capital. The downpour also helped bring down the temperature, giving a much-needed break to the people of Delhi-NCR after battling high summer humidity.

What went wrong?

Maximum Rainfall: Chhatarpur received the maximum rainfall of 49 mm as per the official data till 2.30 pm.

Widespread Showers: Steady, moderate showers were also recorded in nearby areas like Gurugram (35 mm), Mehrauli (18 mm) and Greater Noida (17 mm).

Atmospheric Shift: Showers moved in under thick, overcast skies, bringing daytime temperatures down to a more comfortable 36°C, although relative humidity remained high at 77%.

Why It’s Important

Instant Relief The rain effectively broke the long spell of sultry weather, making it so much more comfortable for Delhiites to be out and about and commute.

The Downside: As with sudden Delhi showers, the heavy downpour has also caused waterlogging in some parts and slow traffic in low-lying areas and major intersections.

Air Quality: The rains helped wash away the suspended particulate matter and keep the city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) in the ‘moderate’ category at 162.

The capital has received the much-needed cooling effect from the rainfall Sunday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) continues to monitor monsoon activity and has forecast overcast conditions to persist with further moderate to heavy rains likely to hit the region in the next few days.
