CJP Protest Turns Violent in Delhi, 5 Police Personnel Injured in Stone Pelting
Five Delhi Police personnel were injured after protesters allegedly threw stones during a CJP protest. RAF teams used limited force and tear gas shells to clear the area.
When the march to parliament turned to chaos
The mood in central Delhi turned tense in no time as the youth-led protest by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) spiralled into violent street clashes, leaving commuters and authorities completely unprepared. What was intended as a politically choreographed mobilisation quickly spiralled into a chaotic scene of unrest that paralysed key arteries in the heart of the capital. The protest had drawn large crowds from different adjoining areas who expressed their dissatisfaction over the ongoing socio-economic issues and recent policy decisions. The crowd amassed at strategic hallways of government buildings, and the mood of the assembly changed from passionate chants to hostile resistance. Outside the designated protest zones, agitators began to assemble and to probe the resolve of the security perimeter. Marshals and intelligence units on the ground reported a palpable increase in tension hours before the physical clashes actually took place.
Tearing Down Barriers and Rising Tensions
As part of enhanced security measures for the opening day of the parliamentary session, heavily equipped Delhi Police battalions and specialised Rapid Action Force (RAF) units were strategically deployed along crucial routes, senior law enforcement officials said. The situation quickly got out of hand when sections of the huge crowd attempted to aggressively tear down heavy security barricades, pushing past legally defined boundaries and directly challenging police lines. In response to the breach, agitators threw volleys of heavy stones, bricks and glass bottles at officers trying to hold the line. The unprovoked barrage left several law enforcement personnel bloodied and overwhelmed in the first minutes of the skirmish. Fighting erupted at multiple intersections, transforming streets into battlefields, and reinforcements were urgently called in. Bystanders and drivers desperately sought to escape the flying debris and the chaotic melee.
Rearranging Things after the Event
The following violent clash left more than a hundred security personnel and dozens of protesters suffering from various injuries, while public property, media equipment and barricades were severely damaged in the crossfire. Because of the heavy congestion, law enforcement agencies used targeted batons and fired multiple rounds of tear gas shells to clear the dense pockets of rioters in an effort to regain control of the situation and prevent further escalation. Thick plumes of smoke drifted across the avenues as the crowds were gradually pushed back, scattering into side streets around. Forensic teams began collecting evidence like discarded rocks and placards to identify key instigators while emergency medical teams were sent to treat the injured on the spot.
