The central government has agreed to look into the five-point charter of demands of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), and the latter has called off its protest at Delhi's Jantar Mantar, the CJP said. Protest leaders called off their agitation after BJP President and Union Minister JP Nadda stated that the government would examine the proposals through proper channels.

Days of protests end with government outreach

CJP said on Sunday it was leaving Jantar Mantar after days of protests and back-channel talks. The decision came after Nadda assured that the centre is ready to look into the party’s demands.

Speaking to reporters, Nadda said the government believes in democratic dialogue. “We will examine the demands through the appropriate administrative process,” he said, while urging protesters to maintain peace and expressing hope that discussions would continue constructively.

A five-point charter to be reviewed

The government has not accepted the demands outright. Officials confirmed, however, that the five-point charter submitted by CJP will now be sent to the concerned ministries for review.

Sources said the proposals cover issues related to governance, public welfare, and administrative reforms. The Centre has not given a timeline for a final decision yet.

Calling the government’s response a “positive first step", CJP leaders said they were ending the protest in good faith. They added that they will keep a close watch on what action follows before deciding on any future course of agitation.

Relief for Delhi as restrictions likely to ease

The withdrawal brings relief to Delhi residents after several days of heightened security in central Delhi. Additional police personnel had been deployed, traffic was diverted, and surveillance was tightened around Jantar Mantar and nearby government buildings to maintain law and order.

With the protest now suspended, authorities are expected to gradually lift restrictions, allowing normal traffic and public movement to resume.

Political reactions

The development has drawn reactions across the political spectrum. BJP leaders called it proof that the government remains open to dialogue. Opposition parties, however, claimed the Centre acted only after sustained public pressure.
