Tried and Tested: I Tried a Face Serum Priced at ₹20,000, Is It Really Worth the Splurge?
A ₹20,000 luxury face serum improved hydration, skin texture and radiance after consistent use, but it did not dramatically reduce wrinkles or pigmentation. Experts say expensive skincare can offer a premium experience, but effective results depend more on ingredients, consistency and overall skincare habits than on price alone.
Luxury skincare products are often advertised as miracle workers promising dramatic results. But can a face serum costing Rs 20,000 really justify its premium price? The high-end serum was used for several weeks which gave a clearer picture of what consumers can realistically expect from an expensive skincare product.
First impressions count
I was immediately impressed with the premium packaging of the serum, its lightweight texture and fast-absorbing formula. It felt good on the skin without the greasiness and layered well under moisturiser and sunscreen making it easy to add to both morning and evening skincare routines.
It Took Time To Get Results
The improvements were not overnight as the marketing claims suggested but were gradual and visible. With continued use the skin looked more hydrated, smoother and a little more luminous. The fine lines were less visible because of the better hydration and the complexion looked healthier. There was no dramatic change in deep wrinkles, acne scarring or pigmentation.
Why Is It So Expensive?
Why do luxury serums cost so much? Simply put, patented formulas, premium ingredients, extensive research and elegant packaging. They often contain ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, peptides, antioxidants, and vitamins, which are also found in cheaper skincare products. Some luxury formulas may provide a more luxurious experience, but a higher price tag doesn’t always equate to better results, dermatologists say.
Is it worth the buy?
If you love skincare, and you like to splurge on luxury beauty products and can afford to, this may be a serum worth treating yourself to. But if you want the real anti-ageing or hydrating benefits, you’ll often find the same ingredients in well-formulated products for a fraction of the price. Consistency, sun protection and a simple skincare routine are far more important than the price tag of any one product.
